Engineering team conquer Godwin Challenge

Godwin Challenge winners

Aggregate Industries employees win Dri-Prime pump at Hillhead 2012

Matt Wilkins, Shaun Eaton and Stuart Brown of Aggregate Industries’ Torr Quarry were too quick for the competition as they set the fastest time on Xylem’s Godwin Challenge at Hillhead, winning a Godwin HL80M Dri-Prime pump worth £20,000.

The event took place at this year’s Hillhead exhibition where visitors to the Xylem stand were offered the chance to compete. Willing participants worked in teams and were set a number of tasks to complete including engine and pump servicing. Each team was judged on the time taken to complete all the tasks as well as the quality of work and team performance.

Matt Wilkins said: ‘This is a fantastic achievement for Shaun, Stuart and I and one we are very proud of. Although this was an opportunity to have a bit of fun, we take pride in the work we do and wanted to show what we are capable of. To come away with such a valuable prize is a great feeling.’

Throughout the tasks were 30 critical points to address in order to be in with a chance of taking home the prize. The Aggregate Industries team set a winning time of 16:25, beating the next best time of 20:18.

Steve Heathcote, product manager at Xylem, said: ‘The Hillhead challenge gave experts attending the exhibition the chance to work with our Godwin product and experience the quality and benefits first hand. The Aggregate Industries team beat the second best time by nearly four minutes, which is impressive and makes them worthy winners. Not only did they work together quickly, but the tasks were completed to a very high standard.’

The 2012 Hillhead exhibition was a huge success and welcomed over 17,000 visitors over three days. Xylem showcased the vast product range and capabilities of their global brands, Flygt and Godwin, which can meet any dewatering requirement in the quarrying industry.
