Dry silo mortar continues to increase market penetration

DRY silo mortar producers have enjoyed further increases in sales over the last 12 months, with users now having access to a national network of dry silo mortar plants and four new plants having been established in the last 18 months.

BDS Marketing Research Ltd estimate that nearly a half of all factory produced mortar delivered to sites is now dry silo mortar. The remainder of the factory produced market is represented by ready-to-use and lime sand mortars.

These are some of the key conclusions of a recently published report by the consultancy, which analyses the market by type of mortar with estimates of outputs for every mortar plant in Great Britain.

BDS have identified around 125 mortar plants in the country. CPI Mortars are believed to be the largest dry silo mortar company in Great Britain, while Tarmac are the largest mortar company overall, having the facilities to supply dry silo, ready-to-use or lime sand as required. Other leading companies in this sector include Hanson, CEMEX and Remix.

The consultancy says it expects further growth in dry silo mortar production, as recently installed plants have still to meet their intended capacity. BDS have also identified five planning applications for new plants which, if successful, successful, could add a further 20% to dry silo capacity.

The BDS report, entitled ‘Estimated market shares of mortar producers’, has been published at the same time as similar reports on aggregates, asphalt, ready-mixed concrete and a number of concrete products. For further information contact BDS Marketing.
