Doosan launch new Stage IV-compliant crawler excavator

Doosan DX140LC-5 excavator

Latest 14-tonne DX140LC-5 excavator offers improved performance and increased fuel efficiency

DOOSAN Construction Equipment have launched the new DX140LC-5 – a 14-tonne crawler excavator which is said to set a new benchmark for excavator design worldwide and raises the performance standards already set by the previous LC-3 Stage IIIB model.

At the heart of the new machine is a Perkins 1204F engine which delivers an output of 84.5kW (113hp) at 2,000 rev/min, a 5% increase in engine power and 4% rise in torque while meeting Stage IV emission regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Other new systems and features have also been incorporated to reduce fuel consumption. The machine, for example, can be shut off automatically after a preset time when it is not being operated. The DX140LC-5 model also features Doosan’s smart power control system, which optimizes the balance between the pumps’ output and diesel engine.

Further fuel efficiency is achieved thanks to an electric fan clutch on the excavator that drives the cooling fan at optimum speed. Based on coolant, hydraulic oil, cooler charged air temperatures and target engine speeds, the fan speed is controlled electrically resulting in quieter fan noise and improved fuel efficiency.

Traction on the DX140LC-5 has been boosted with an 18% increase in drawbar pull, while the machine’s front and side lifting capacities have been increased by 10% and 12.5% respectively.

The new cab in the DX140LC-5 has been further refined for operator comfort and ease of operation, including a new system that allows attachments to be operated from either the joystick or a two-way pedal. Users also have the unique jog shuttle switch which, according to Doosan, remains a feature exclusive to their excavators worldwide.

New gauges, functions and menus have been added to the control panel, including a new AdBlue gauge, while a new quick-menu bar has been installed which allows key functions to be accessed quickly, without having to go through all the menus and validations.

A side-view camera is available as an option and the control panel allows the views from both the rear- and side-view cameras to be combined on the same screen, simply by pressing a button on the control panel.

To avoid permanent engine damage, an acoustic alarm has been added to call the operator’s attention to ‘water in fuel’. If the operator ignores the signal after several alerts, the engine and pump are automatically derated.

In addition, the engine emergency stop switch has been relocated on the side of the seat so that it is directly accessible from ground level, for faster access in case of an emergency. All current options (eg narrow tracks, short/long arms, hydraulic lines etc) are available for the DX140LC-5 excavator.
