Crushing and screening plant supplied to leading Seychelles contractor

Pilot Crushtec, South African suppliers of crushing, screening and materials handling equipment to the quarrying, construction, civil engineering, mining and recycling industries, recently commissioned a full modular crushing and screening plant in the Seychelles for Vijay Construction, the largest contracting and engineering business in the country.

Vijay Construction began construction of a major luxury housing complex on Praslin, the Seychelles’ second largest island. They decided to purchase and operate their own quarry to assist them with this project and needed a crushing and screening plant to produce a range of building materials.

The quarry plant is made up of three crushers – primary, secondary and tertiary – as well as a feed hopper and two screens with various Pilot modular conveyors used to transfer material and to stockpile the finished product.

Rock from the quarry is loaded into the vibrating grizzly feeder of the primary crusher, a Pilot modular MJ2436 jaw crusher, where any undersized and unsuitable material is separated and discharged. The oversize material is then fed to the jaw crusher, which accepts material up to 500mm in size. Once crushed, this rock is transferred to a Pilot modular MFH25 feed hopper that acts as a surge bin controlling feed into the rest of the plant. This is vital as the cone and impact crushers further down the production line work more efficiently when fed continuously and consistently.

From the feed bin, material is conveyed to a Pilot modular DD3615 double-deck screen where the rock is sorted into three sizes. Material sized -6mm is discharged to a final-product stockpile, while +35mm rock is transferred to the secondary Pilot modular MC90 cone crusher. Material ranging from +6mm to +35mm is conveyed to the tertiary crusher, an AC208 Twister vertical-shaft impact crusher.

Once the +35mm rock exits the MC90 cone crusher, it is re-circulated back to the same MFH25 feed hopper where material from the primary crusher is stored, and from there is returned to the DD3615 double-deck screen for further sizing.

Crushed material from the AC208 Twister VSI crusher is conveyed to a Pilot modular TD6118 triple-deck screen, where it is sorted into four sizes. Three Pilot modular conveyors are used to stockpile either -2mm or -6mm, -2mm +10mm, -6mm +10mm, +10mm and +19mm material. The remaining +19mm stone is re-circulated back to the AC208 Twister tertiary crusher to be re-processed.

The material produced by this R12 million plant provides Vijay Construction with the sand, grit and base course material, as well as all aggregates, required for road building and surfacing, concrete and airbrick production.

Vijay Construction installed the plant over a two-month period and Pilot Crushtec’s commissioning and training team, InstalLink, completed the electrics installation and, commissioning of the plant over a period of a week.
