CPA Plant Conference 2015

Brian Jones

Construction Plant-hire Association conference to focus on ‘The Future of Construction Plant Hire’

FOLLOWING last year’s successful inaugural event, the CPA Plant Conference 2015 will take place on Wednesday 4 November at Wyboston Lakes Conference Centre, near St Neots, Cambridgeshire. Held in association with MHM Plant, the conference aims to become the principal point of discussion for construction plant issues in the UK.

Among the speakers confirmed for the event are: Jenny Elfsberg, director of emerging technologies at Volvo, who will be talking to delegates about Volvo’s technical developments in plant and machinery; and Prof. Jason Underwood, an expert in BIM (Building Information Modelling) and construction ICT (information communications technology) from the University of Salford, who will be sharing his knowledge of the latest developments in BIM and discussing ‘Big Data’.

Another subject on the conference agenda – one which is helping towards addressing the skills shortage within the construction industry – is the ‘rehabilitation of young offenders through training’ and helping them to find jobs in the construction industry. PC Sonya Hill MBE, a full-time Prince’s Trust co-ordinator for the West Midlands Police, will be discussing this initiative in detail.

In addition, the CPA’s Tim Watson will be talking about new safety guidance which the Strategic Forum Plant Safety Group is currently working on – ‘Preventing Adverse Consequences Caused by Unintentional Movement of Construction Plant’.

As well as an indoor exhibition area supported by companies such as Datatag, Leach Lewis Rubber Tracks, Higher Concept Software, Towergate Insurance, HSB Engineering Insurance and AJ Gallagher, this year’s event will see the addition of a new outdoor exhibition area to allow companies to display large equipment.

Attendance at the event is open to anyone who has an interest in, or influence over, supplying or procuring plant (ticket price £49.80 + VAT). Delegates can register to attend via the CPA website: www.cpa.uk.net/conference
