Chris Wright & Sons invest in new Hyundai machine

Hyundai R220LC-9A excavator

Inverclyde-based company takes delivery of a demolition-spec R220LC-9A excavator

CHRIS Wright & Sons have purchased a new Hyundai R220LC-9A excavator, complete with full demolition specification, from local dealers Young Plant.

‘We have a 14-strong fleet of machines and the two most recent additions have been the Hyundai R220LC-9A units,’ said Kris Wright, company secretary for Chris Wright & Sons. ‘The 20-tonne excavators are the perfect size for demolition work. We took delivery of the first demo-spec R220LC-9A in September last year, and the latest machine is again fitted with full demolition protection.’

The full excavator conversion was completed by Stirling-based Young Plant, while the Hyundai top and front cage protection was fitted by Walkerweld Engineering of Glasgow. The boxing ring on the machine was supplied by Cabcare.

Other ‘demo extras’ on the new R220LC-9A excavator include: a bucket ram guard; hydraulic aux lines for rotating attachments; a grab bracket for attachments; boom ram protection; side demo skirts; and heavy-duty belly and track motor plates.

The machine is powered by a Stage IIIB-compliant Cummins QSB6.7 engine (157hp) featuring a direct flow air filter, which is said to deliver faster cycle times and improved fuel economy over previous models.

Richard Boyd, one of Chris Wright & Sons’ operators using the excavator, has been clearly impressed by the newest R220LC-9A excavator. ‘I've found it copes well with the work it is currently undergoing which includes exposing foundations, earth moving and loading dumptrucks,’ he said. ‘The operator cabin is top notch; everything is in the perfect place, easy to keep tidy and clean. Overall it’s a good all-round machine.’

Stuart Bennett, another operator for Chris Wright & Sons who worked on the older of the two R220LC-9A machines, added: ‘I have been on this machine since we got it just under a year ago and it has done 1,783 hours and never missed a beat on site.  It’s had to work hard and has proved to be right up there with the best – an excellent performer.’
