CEMEX UK lead the way on Twitter

Firm sees Twitter as an essential communications channel as number of followers hits 10,000

@CEMEX_UK has attracted its 10,000th follower on the popular social media channel Twitter. According to CEMEX, followers have grown significantly in recent months, from 3,000 just nine months ago to 10,000 today, as the company has developed more creative content, engaged in trending topics and taken a more strategic focus to connect with customers and key stakeholders.

The CEMEX UK account was set up in 2010 and attracted 1,000 followers, as the company began to learn about this relatively new communications channel and posted news stories. Popularity among CEMEX employees has also grown and today approximately 100 staff regularly post tweets.

Martin Casey, director of public affairs and communications, commented: ‘CEMEX UK lead the UK building materials industry in engagement on Twitter. It’s a valuable tool to gauge the topic and interest of the moment, and to inform our followers – including customers, charities, conservation bodies, industry groups and public organizations – of the latest CEMEX news and viewpoints.’

He continued: ‘Recent topics highlighted on Twitter have included: our ‘black’ cement tanker congratulating the All Blacks on their Rugby World Cup win; support of colleagues’ activities for Breast Cancer Awareness month; a Stay Safe message for Bonfire Night; our latest truck, the Econic tipper with its 90% extra visibility; bug ‘hotels’ at our Hyndford Quarry; CEMEX winning the prestigious Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport award; and some of our latest contracts. Twitter is now an essential communications channel for us.’

In 2014, CEMEX UK were ranked 12th in the world of social networkers on Twitter in the World Concrete 500 listing, produced by the World Concrete Forum, a project aimed at global improvement in safety, sustainability and speed of innovation in the global concrete industry.
