Cement and Concrete Science Conference

Three-day annual conference and one-day workshop at the University of Sheffield

THE 34th annual Cement and Concrete Science Conference, organized by the Cementitious Materials Group of IoM3, co-sponsored by RILEM and hosted by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield, will take place from 14–16 September 2014, with a dedicated workshop on Waste Cementation taking place on 17 September.

The conference will provide an opportunity for academic researchers, students and industrialists to meet and discuss their research on topics including: Hydration and microstructure of Portland cement and blended cements; Alternative binders and their application as cements and concretes; Durability testing of concretes based on Portland and non-Portland cements; Structural and thermal performance of concrete materials; Waste re-use in cements and concretes; Cementitious materials for nuclear waste applications; and Sustainability issues related to cement and concrete production and utilization.

The one-day workshop on Waste Cementation will bring together leading practitioners from industry and academia, spanning many fields of waste management (nuclear, manufacturing, mining and others), to cross-fertilize scientific outcomes and insights between these diverse fields of activity. Key topics will include: Selection of the best cement type for a given waste stream; Design of novel cementing systems; Characterization of wasteform performance; Implementation of cementation processes; and Storage and final disposal of cemented wasteforms.
