Caterpillar introduce new telehandler

THE new Cat TH417 Telehandler features a number of new systems and designs to enhance performance, promote operator efficiency and machine productivity, expand versatility and keep service time and costs to a minimum. The machine, which has a rated load capacity of 4,000kg, delivers 17m of lift height and is powered by a Cat C4.4 turbocharged, after-cooled, mechanically controlled diesel engine producing 74.5kW of power.

The power train features a limited slip differential fitted in the front axle that engages automatically, allowing the telehandler to work in difficult underfoot conditions. A four-speed power-synchro transmission and torque converter drive system is designed to ensure long, trouble-free life in tough applications.

The TH417 features a cylinder and chain-driven boom that results in reduced boom weights and improved cycle times, along with a compensating cylinder to keep the pallet forks or work tools parallel when lifting or lowering the boom.

Load-sensing hydraulics provide higher lifting and digging forces as well as the ability to operate all three boom functions simultaneously and proportionally.

The TH417 features a new, spacious cab, providing the operator with all-around visibility; improved control placement; single electro-hydraulic joystick control of hydraulics; while a transmission disconnect button on the joystick allows the operator to route engine power to the boom for faster boom operation.

The dashboard features an interactive liquid crystal display that shows functions such as engine speed, machine speed, selected gear, direction of travel, and fuel level. A built-in start code device designed to reduce the risk of theft and unauthorized use is fitted as standard.

The telehandler is capable of three different steering modes - two-wheel steer, circle steer and crab steer. Different modes allow for improved control and manoeuvrability in tight spaces. When changing steering modes, the wheels automatically realign to the proper position.

A wide range of Cat work tools - forks, buckets, and lifting equipment – are used for multiple tasks with different types of materials. The TH417 features a manual IT interface quick coupler as standard, allowing the operator to change tools quickly. An optional hydraulic quick coupler allows the operator to change tools even more quickly and efficiently without leaving the cabin.

Maintenance has been reduced and simplified. Routine daily maintenance consists of checking the air cleaner indicator, hydraulic filter indicator, fluid levels and engine oil level in conjunction with a walk-around inspection. Service access points are conveniently located under the engine cover.
