BSA appoints new chairman

Chris Smith

Managing director of Mixamate appointed as new chairman of the Batched on Site Association

THE Batched on Site Association (BSA), the UK association for mobile batching plant operators, has announced the appointment of a new chairman, with a new agenda, to take the organization into 2013.

Chris Smith, managing director of Mixamate, the UK’s leading provider of mix-on-site concrete and screed, has taken the reins with immediate effect, having succeeded Tom Baker of Eastern Concrete.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Smith said: ‘This is a challenging time not only for mobile batching plant operators but also for the industry as a whole, and as niche operators we face particular regulatory challenges that need to be addressed.

‘The industry is stronger united, and in working together we are able to ensure greater standards for our members and their customers. The batched-on-site sector is the fastest growing sector in the concrete industry, and I am delighted to take the helm of the Association in such exciting times.’

BSA was launched in 2007 to represent the interests of companies operating mobile batching plants. Since then it has grown to represent more than 40 operators, including Mixamate, Eastern Concrete, Master Concrete, Armcon Ltd, Easy Mix Ltd and Green Circle Concrete Ltd (Scotland).

According to BDS Market Research, the UK batched-on-site sector is now estimated to be worth around £150 million per annum (10% of the total UK ready-mixed concrete market), with an estimated 500+ vehicles in operation.
