Axor is king of the castle

"Castle Cement have placed an order for 31 Axor 2543 tractor units, all fitted with optional high-roofed cabs and Telligent 16-speed gearboxes."

"Castle Cement have a policy of operating two vehicle marques, with 80% of purchases going to the favoured manufacturer, the rest to the competitor. In 1996 the role of junior partner was awarded to the Mercedes Actros, with the majority of the fleet being ERF."

"Barry Hoole, Castle Cement’s national fleet manager, said: ‘The Actros’ have done very well on fuel economy and with an annual fuel bill of around £7 million that is a significant factor for us. We undertook a large-scale evaluation of our trucks and worked very closely with both manufacturers to get the best performance out of them. The process went on for about two years and the Mercedes emerged the clear winner.’ Castle Cement then took on a long-term Axor demonstrator, ahead of the new model’s launch in the UK last April."

"At Castle Cement the Axor units are working mainly with 44-tonne bulk powder trailers at the company’s three main manufacturing sites at Clitheroe, Ketton and Mold."
