110t Rock Hawg makes debut at Hillhead 2010

The Tesmec TRS1475 will be making an appearance in the demonstration area at Hillhead 2010.  Powered by a 630hp six-cylinder Caterpillar C16 engine, the Rock Hawg has a 3.8m-wide drum with a maximum cut of 600mm and is capable of extracting up to 300m3 of rock per hour.

The new machine was recently purchased from Westquay Trading by A.J. Gammond Ltd (who also own a smaller version of the Rock Hawg, the TRS1150) to provide specialist plant hire trenching equipment for both large scale construction projects and the bulk excavation of level rock surfaces.

One of the main benefits of the Rock Hawg is that it creates much lower vibrations than conventional methods of extraction.  This means that, in the right circumstances, stone can be both won and crushed in a single process with minimal disturbance to existing buildings, roads, and neighbours, making it a viable economic and environmental alternative to drilling and blasting.
