admixture

A material, usually a liquid, which is added to a batch of concrete during mixing in order to modify the properties of the fresh or hardened concrete. There are many types of admixtures for concrete including: accelerators, retarders, plasticizers, air-entrainers etc. see British Standard 5075, Parts 1,2 and 3.
