Nature After Minerals: Supporting Priority Species on Mineral Sites

Venue

Binnegar Quarry

Nature After Minerals (NAM) event looking at species conservation through minerals restoration.

At a time when research shows that nature is in trouble and many species are in rapid decline, appropriate biodiversity-led minerals restoration can help support and recover species. For this event, NAM will visit Dorset to consider the huge potential for minerals restoration to deliver for nature along the extensive Puddletown Road area of extraction work near Wareham. Plans to create priority heathland habitat in the area could also throw a vital lifeline to early pioneer species through successional habitat creation on the way to establishing the heathland everyone would like to see.

There will be a visit to Binnegar Quarry to learn from local authority representatives, ecological consultants, RSPB specialists and site operators about how heathland restoration work at the site is providing a home for the smallest and most vital of species.

The cost includes literature, refreshments, site visit and light lunch.

Spaces are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Complete the attached booking form and send it to: conservation-advice@rspb.org.uk.
