Nature After Minerals: Providing White-clawed Crayfish Havens
Venue
Part of a series of Nature After Minerals (NAM) events looking at priority species conservation through minerals restoration.
At a time when research shows that nature is in trouble and many species are in rapid decline, appropriate biodiversity-led minerals restoration can help support and recover species. For this event, NAM will be considering the potential restored mineral sites could represent for providing vital havens for native white-clawed crayfish as they struggle to survive agains the invasive, non-native signal crayfish.
The event will visit Threshfield Quarry, near Skipton in North Yorkshire and will see the work that Tarmac have undertaken at the quarry in order to create a refuge for white-clawed crayfish on site. You will also be able to hear from white-clawed crayfish experts, statutory bodies and ecologists, talking about the work carried out to establish a colony for the species in this area of North Yorkshire.
The cost includes literature, refreshments, site visit and a light lunch.
Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
