C5 - Test Methods

This Topic page covers the sampling and test methods that are routinely used to assess:

• Fresh concrete
• Hardened concrete
• Mortar for masonry.

The test methods in routine use are published as BS EN Standards.  They replace the series of test methods for concrete published as:

• BS 1881 Testing concrete
• BS 4551 Methods of testing mortars, screeds and plasters

Whilst most of British (BS) Standard BS 4551 has been withdrawn, there is a current edition that details selected test methods and guidance that is not covered by the associated BS EN Standard.
