    • Centa Transmissions – your first choice for mechanical power transmissions

Founded in 1979, Centa Transmissions, is a specialist in the design, specification and manufacture of mechanical power transmissions for all types of industrial, plant and marine applications. As an independently-owned subsidiary of international group Centa Antriebe Kirschey, Centa supplies flexible couplings, gears, gearboxes, brakes and bespoke engineered drives to any specification and for any application.

Today, Centa is at the forefront of drive technology, having solved countless drive problems for international and UK manufacturing businesses. Centa’s reputation is built on the ability to solve problems, often specifying a combination of products that, as well as flexible couplings, include precision gears, gearboxes, electromagnetic clutches and speed reducers. Centa has also developed their highly successful and ultra-lightweight yet super-strong carbon fibre composite shafts for long reach drive applications and these are capable of covering spans or depths of over 10 metres without intermediate bearing support.

Overcoming drive misalignment, noise and vibration

Centa power transmission components have a proven capacity to cope with all forms of drive misalignment and the security of sealed housings increases reliability whilst reducing the need for maintenance. This means that Centa provides a superb resolution to noise, vibration and misalignment problems for both designers and plant manufacturers.

Their core business specialism is in producing drives for diesel engines. The lightweight CENTAFLEX-H, K and KE flexible couplings have been specially developed to meet the demanding requirements of excavators, vibratory rollers, loaders, generators and other plant, to overcome all types of drive misalignment, eliminate vibration and reduce noise. The CENTAFLEX-KE combines the unique combination of high torsional stiffness and simultaneous radial flexibility to optimise hydrostatic diesel drives in the low or medium power range.

Their flexible couplings are designed to handle angular and radial misalignment and axial end-float – either singly or in combination – caused by operational wear or installation requirements. All forms of torsional stress including momentary shock overload, straightforward vibration due to machine movement, or oscillation from the intermittent power strokes of driving units, can be minimised by specifying the appropriate Centa coupling.

Centa also produces a patented Twin Plate Hydraulic Pump Adaptor, which, along with the CENTAFLEX-K and CENTAFLEX-KE, has high performance, low weight and great cost saving benefits. Units are available for standard or customer specified diesel engine flywheel or power take-off mountings, electric or hydraulic motor and other shaft-to-shaft connections. The versatile CENTAFLEX-A is also widely used to connect a variety of diesel engine drives.

Historically, diesel powered construction vehicles with flange connected hydraulic pumps have predominantly been coupled with a torsionally stiff coupling, but performance has suffered as a consequence of high radial stiffness. The disadvantage of this is that radial misalignment causes premature wear to the coupling, the connected driveshaft and bearings. Specifying a Centa coupling removes the problem.

Bringing you the world’s best power transmissions products and solutions

Centa also holds supply and distribution agreements with the world’s leading and most innovative gearbox and power transmission manufacturers. For instance, partnerships with Dinamic Oil and Keller mean that plant manufacturers, engineers and designers can now source large gear components directly from the Yorkshire-based firm and can benefit from the range of design, production and maintenance skills only a UK based expert in large-scale, specialised and complex gear solutions provides. What’s more, all these large-scale applications are proven in heavy duty quarrying and materials handling situations, where planetary gear units are used extensively.

As a consequence, Centa customers will now benefit from 110 years of gear experience, as well as Centa’s power transmission expertise that has been established over four decades. Which means that Centa now solves even the biggest, heaviest and most complex of your drive problems.

The close proximity of the Keller and Centa manufacturing plants in Germany means that it is easy for Centa to create entire drive solutions through the integration of skills and experience and that we now offer UK customers a fully comprehensive service; from the smallest spiral bevel gearbox, to gears of up to 4 metres diameter in size, plus, bespoke gearboxes weighing up to a massive 160 tons.

As well as supplying a range of flexible couplings and PTO drives for small to medium construction, quarrying and mining plant, the association with Keller and others, now enables them to scale up capacity and specify some of the largest gearboxes around.

Of additional interest is the Centa Belt Box, a transfer device used where space is at a premium, by placing the hydraulic pumps adjacent to the engine

Independent power and renewable energy systems

Elsewhere in the field, Centa is also heavily involved in the renewable energy sector, working with research associations and specialist equipment manufacturers to create mechanical transmission drives for systems in wind, wave, tidal and solar energy. With long-time involvement in supplying products for use in power generation, Centa is ideally placed to ensure that these environmentally friendly systems benefit from reliable and trouble-free drives, often in submerged or other hard to reach locations that demand robust, totally sealed, maintenance-free operation.

Innovative diesel engine drives for plant and equipment

Centa Transmissions is a market leader in the supply of flexible couplings for mechanical power transmissions for mobile plant and equipment. They specialise in providing innovative mechanical drives for diesel engines, hydraulic and electric motors and through unrivalled design capability, integrate couplings, gears, industrial brakes and other Centa drive products into robust and cost-effective solutions.

Our products are found in all types of construction equipment, including cranes and winches, crushers, dumpers, excavators, generators and other plant and equipment used in mining, quarrying and oil and gas exploration.
