Given the recent announcements by Government on the proposed reduction in Train To Gain funded support and more of a focus on Apprenticeships and getting new blood into industry, I wonder about the impact on our sector?
At a time when the industry celebrates 10 years of reducing accidents it is hard to see how industry will not continue to work hard to achieve 'Target Zero', but with budgets being ever squeezed, will doing more with half as much lead to the cutting of corners and possibly increased incidents of non-competence?

Was train to gain ever really a viable source of funding for the end user? I was involved with MPQC on the pilot project looking at funding for level 2 qualifications and from an employers perspective the time and effort expended for the cost benefit just wasn't really worth it. A cash cow for Local T&EC's maybe but not for the employer.
